REVIEW - The Ides Of March

How many of you, at least in the last few years, have heard, between a lot of  confirmations and denials, that George Clooney was interested to begina political career? Everyone. Even if probabely this speculations are only made to improve his pubic image (like his relationships with Elisabetta Canalis and now Stacy Keibler), certainly with his last movie, "The Ides Of March", something about this roumors is true.
In this film, George Clooney tells us the story of Stephen Meyers, a press officer that works for the domocratic Morris during the elections for becoming the democratic runner-up to be US President. During this period, Steve will found out that being fair in politics is the worst thing possible...
Ok, altought the corruption could be something that exists in this enviroment, I think tell a story were in something as important as politic is treated like a place full of infamous people were the fairest loose is wrong, this kind of things disrespect also who makes politic. Also, why should be this something against Obama? Ok, he didn't mentain some promises, he didn't change a lot maybe, but he had to face the economic crisis, and a lot of other problems... And, for who says that this is a movie that shows us the imperfection of the human being, especially for whom that must be perfect publicly, i quote them Nolan's Harvey Dent of "The Dark Knight": before becoming Two-Face, he had to appear publicly as perfect, without fear and indestructible, but than the movie shows us the real him, that fall totally, becoming Two-Face, in the end.
Clarification: I'm not moralist, never, I like immoral movies/TV series (South Park for example), but there is an inevitable thing: the movie or the TV serie has to be dove well. And, yes, "The Ides Of March" is not made well, in fact is superficial in the story and in the screenplay (some dialogues are very ridicolous), making the story so stupid, as well as boring. Consider also that who is directing this movie, one of the guys that almost killed Batman theatrical franchise, is superficial too: Clooney use some technic that are used in "author movies", but, althought is planned to be like that, the story is made up exactely for a thriller, so it should have been more entertaining (Kevin McDonald's "State Of Play" docet).
The only good things are the actors: Ryan Gosling, Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood are very good...
Unfortunately, is one of the most overrated movies of the past year... It will be forgot soon...

REVIEW - The Adventures Of TinTin: The Secret Of The Unicorn

It took a long time for Spielberg to finally shoot this movie: it has become his fixation since a reviewer compared "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" to Hergè's comic, but, even if he could have shoot it in live action (due to his fast growing production-power in the last 20 years), he preferred to wait, looking for a suitable tecnology, the motion capture, and the right partner, and actually for this last one he found the rightest: Peter Jackson. If to these two giants, you add Edgar Write ("Hot Fuzz", "Shaun Of The Dead" and "Scott Pilgrim vs The World"), Steven Moffat ("Doctor Who" and BBC "Sherlock" writer) and Joe Cornish ("Attack The Block" director and writer with Wright of "Hot Fuzz"), 3 of the best rising writer in whole world, that write a Spielberg's screenplay which type of movie you could have? Easy: amazing. And actually the first chapter of TinTin Theatrical Version respect all the expectations, becoming one of the most beautiful BlockBuster of whole 2011, for various reason. First of all, it signs the return of Steve to one of his favourite and succesful genre, the adventure: the whole movie is a ride like it was the Indiana Jones movies, but this time, thanks to the mo-cap, Spielberg created a 107 minutes rollercoaster, where all the characters rides us to a series of pyrotechnical events, thanks also to the very well wrote story, thanks of course to the amazing trio. However, probabely the most beautiful thing of the movie is the Motion Capture level: literally amazing, the expressiveness of all the characters is to a higher level than "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes", due of course to the level of the actors, from Jamie Bell, that plays TinTin, to Andy Serkis (Captain Haddock and his ancestor) passing through Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (playing Thomson and Thompson, the two funny cops) and the villain Daniel Craig, that is really in part (thanks to the Mo-Cap too).
In the end, we are in front of one of the most succesfull (not at US Box-Office unfortunately) adventures ever, and I hope, as most of all movie's audience, a sequel will be made, and actually it seems Peter Jackson after "Hobbit" movies will direct TinTin second chapter.. it will be true?
Hope is last thing to die...

REVIEW - Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows

You know, in the last years, the famous trend "sequel worst than first one" has been disproved: for example, during the last decade we've seen sequels like "Blade II", "Toy Story 3" and "Hellboy II", not forgetting Nolan's "The Dark Knight".
So, is "Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows" better than the 2009 surprising box-office hit? Surprisingly, the answer is "hell yeah"!
First of all, this chapter reprise the figure of Professor Moriarty (introduced a little in the first movie), the real nemesi of the private detective, with their "game of shadows", obviously rewrote to fit the atmosphere of the previous movie, which this conserve the best elements, like the relationship between Holmes and Watson, refining the defects but not only them: the fighting scenes are very well planned; the other new characters introduced are very well drawn, especially Mycroft Holmes (the most british men in the movie, thanks to Stephen Fry) and Madame Simza (played by Noomi Rapace, known for the role of Lisbeth Sanders in the Theatrical Swedish version of Millennium Trilogy), but everything works thanks to the mastery of Guy Ritchie: the english director finally shows us a very matured skill of shooting movies: in fact, he uses rallenty where is needed, without overusing it (generally this tecnique is used too much in the blockbusters editing), but the best thing that the ex Mr. Ciccone shows us is to have used more his hand that charactirezes his movies, proabely due to the box-office gross of the first movie: if in the previous film this was limited just to the fighting scenes, finally not only the fighiting scenes are very similar to the "Snatch" once, but also its frenetic editing is present (with their onomatopeic attribute) giving the movie a very frenetic rhytm that fits perfectly with the story, which is very well devised, thanks also to the good job of the actors.
In the end, this action-packed adventure is a great family blockbuster, which only goal is to relax the audience: for christmas, we cannot ask anything better than this.

1ST IMPRESSION - The Dark Knight Rises

Finally, after the teaser released this summer and the prologue in front the IMAX copy of "Mission:Impossible - Ghost Prologue", Warner finally released the full trailer for one, or, probably, THE most anticipated movie set to be in theatres this 2012: "The Dark Knight Rises", the final chapter to Nolan's realistic and personal vision of Bob Kane's superhero: Batman, that, thanks to the english director, has been respawn after the "killing-character" film "Batman & Robin".
As the trailer tagline says, the movie will be a great conclusion to the trilogy, so we should expect a very shocking movie at least as great as the second chapter. By the way, this post's goal is to comment the full trailer, with a mention to the Prologue first.
The prologue is very easy to comment. is thrilling and has the same target of "The Dark Knight" one, that is to introduce us the (main) villain: in the end of the scene, the Bane's person is very intelligent and machiavellian. For who doesn't know the background of Bane in the Movie, he is a terrorist, member of the League Of Shadows (the same one of R'as Al Ghul), with a unic goal: destroy Gotham.
The trailer, altought it lasts only 2 minutes and half, shows us a lot of scene: the battle in front of Gotham Town Hall; the spectacular attack at the Gotham Rogue Stadium (proably the scene where the villain will reveal himself publicly); a dialogue between Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne (presenting finally the Anne Hathaways character); a scene that shows us Wayne very shattered (the movie should be inspired to "Knightfall" run, so it's supposed that Bruce ass will be at least kicked a lot) that probably will represent the "fall" phase of the character that will lead to the "rise" phase; in the end, we see, just for little moments, the John Blake/Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Miranda Tate/Marion Cotillard characters: if this last one could be Talia Al Ghul, John Blake is totally mysterious: it goes to be a Nolan's version of Robin (come on, a circense that become a superhero is very ridiculous in the realistic tone of the movie, so a police-Robin is more suitable) or another villain (Back Mask?), or simplier a original character...
By-passing the problem of Bane voice (was told too much), the are two question remaining: will Liam Neeson be in the movie? Will Cillian Murphy/Scarecrow have a larger role?
For this question, we have to wait 'til next July...
